Common Moorhen [sothöna]

Moorhens are rare guests in Uddevalla, but sometimes they stay for a while during the winter months. We've tried to get a glimpse of this one since shortly after Christmas, but without any luck – until today. And it definately has two legs! Hasselbacken, Uddevalla, on January 25, 2019.

Glaucous Gull [vittrut]

This is actually a rare bird! This glaucous gull has decided to spend the winter in our small coastal town, and to let older people feed it with large chunks of bread (the summer diet is more like eggs and young birds). Look at the size of it compared to the common herring gulls mounted on the roof! Hasselbacken, Uddevalla, on January 20, 2017.

European Herring Gull [gråtrut]

I like this picture a lot! There’s a lot of humor in it! The herring gull is one of the most common birds around here, but these three, keeping a close eye on the horizon, are indeed special. Kosterhavet National Park, on June 10, 2015.

Osprey [fiskgjuse]

This might very well be the reason I decided to actually start photoblogging and not just keep thinking about it: our meeting with the osprey at Ranneberg, Uddevalla, on May 1, 2015. We were just having some coffee in the small harbor when the osprey sailed in from over the woods, caught its prey, and got chased by the opportunistic gulls hoping for fish for lunch. I'm especially fond of the pic with the osprey flying over the idyllic houses, and I love the last one in the series – just look at that gull!
